HCDSB Announces the Student Award of Excellence Recipients!

Each year, the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) celebrates exceptional students across our school district at the Annual Student Awards of Excellence Ceremony. This year, due to COVID-19 precautions in place, we are recognizing and congratulating our student recipients virtually!

Congratulations to Veronika Sustrova who won the Student Award of Excellence & Carol Albelleh who won the Spirit of Inclusion Award for Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School!

About Veronika

Veronika Sustrova is an exceptionally high achieving Advanced Placement student, who is passionate about sparking students’ interest in S.T.E.M. subjects and promoting the role of women in science and engineering. This humble leader devotes countless hours as the director of Bishop Reding’s  S.T.E.M. Team and as a Leader in Black, while also pursuing ARCT in piano performance and serving as a music volunteer at a local retirement home and at her parish.

About Carol

Carol is a dedicated, responsible, cheerful student that exemplifies what leadership should be.  She participates in the Student Athletic Association, Breakfast Club, School Choir and Best Buddies to name a few.  Carol always says hello to everyone she meets whether it be a staff member or student and ensures that others who require assistance and/or support are being included.  When staff were asked to describe Carol, some responses were; “a bucket full of sunshine” and “a walking billboard of inclusion”.  If Carol has had this much of an impact on the staff and students at Bishop Reding in only 4 months, we can only imagine how much she will accomplish in her next 3.5 years.

About the Awards

  • The Student Awards of Excellence are presented annually to a student from each elementary and secondary school who has demonstrated outstanding qualities in Catholic leadership, family commitment, involvement in school affairs and community activities.
  • The Spirit of Inclusion Award was created by the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC), and is presented each year to elementary and secondary students who demonstrate a commitment to school activities and to their community, making their peers feel valued and respected.
