Chaplaincy Corner – Prayer for June 8 – Trinity Sunday

Brothers and sisters, … listen to my appeal, agree with one another and live in peace; and the God of love and peace with be with you. (2Cor.13.11-13)

Yesterday was Trinity Sunday, the solemnity that celebrates that God lives in community. While God is one, God’s inner self is a communion of three distinct persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Like God, we are called to live in community. We are not meant to stand alone, but to pull together, living in a web of interdependence.

When we are interdependent we lend our strengths to the other when they are in need; in turn, the other is strong for us when we need their support. Unity requires a sense of giving, freedom from selfishness. It requires forgiveness and the willingness to let go of painful memories and hurts.

O most holy trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, you have made us in your own image and likeness. Grant that the thoughts of our mind, the words of our mouths and all our actions lead us closer to you, as we endeavour to live in community with you and each other.
