Black History Month
Hey HT, it’s Black History month! A month to commemorate all African Canadians and their contributions to Canadian society. Richard Pierpoint was one of the Canadian heroes. After suffering captivity from his native Senegal, Pierpont first escaped slavery when he became a soldier for the British in the revolutionary war. He later relocated to the Niagara border region to live the rest in Canada. But when the war of 1812 broke out, the now 68-year-old Pierpont mustered an army of 40 black men all from the Niagara region, who were credited with a pivotal role in the many battles they fought in. He served Canada with pride, bravery and honour.
