We have begun each morning announcement with an acknowledgement of First Nations and Indigenous peoples. When we are acknowledging traditional territory its shows recognition of and respect for Indigenous peoples. It is a sign of respect and recognition, and acknowledging the ties the descendants of the First Peoples have to the land – its importance to their culture, ceremonies, and traditions. Recognition and respect are essential elements of establishing healthy, reciprocal relations.
