See the Problem, Be the Solution Contest

During the Bullying Prevention Week in November, the Student Senate hosted a launch at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School where staff and students from all schools received Information about the HCDSB See the Problem, Be the Solution Contest.

Each school is invited to submit one entry to participate in the contest. This entry could be a poster, a video, or a song.

Please double check the rules to ensure that all criteria have been met. See complete details listed below.

To celebrate the entries of all our schools, all entries will be showcased at a Final Gala organized by the Student Senate:

Details for online voting will follow once entries have been received.

  • Entries are due on D2L by Monday, March 2, 2020 with accompanying link to the contest entry form

Submission Theme – Positive messaging about:

  • Equity and Diversity
  • Personal well-being and self esteem
  • Healthy relationships and bullying prevention
  • Building positive spaces and belonging at school and in the community

Target Audience:

  • Parents and family members (immediate and extended family)
  • Self
  • Other Youth
  • Community at Large (i.e. bus drivers, convenience stores, crossing guards, coaches, general public)

General Rules:

  • Message must be powerful, positive, concise and clearly communicated
  • Entries that contain the following will NOT be considered:
    • Dramatizations of fighting, harassment or other harmful behavior
    • Swearing, homophobic, racist, sexist or otherwise inappropriate language or content.
  • No school or students name to appear in submission
  • Should have a school wide focus. Preference will be given to items produced by a number of students.

Categories:

  • Best Poster
  • Best Video
  • Best Original Song – must be prepared to perform at the gala

School Entries:

  • Each School Principal may receive multiple entries, however ONE entry in total (your choice of
  • category) may be forwarded as the representative entry of the school. If more than one is forwarded, they will be disqualified.
  • School entry should be submitted through the online D2L platform

Criteria:

Poster

  • Needs to be in a digital format of high resolution that can be enlarged/reproduced Format should be
  • as a *.jpg or *.pdf file
  • Should not include any logos of the school, school board or the Halton Regional Police Service
  • Must include the See the Problem, Be the Solution logo

Video

  • Cannot be longer than 90 seconds
  • Cannot include copyrighted songs or materials
  • Should not include any logos of the school, school board or the Halton Regional Police Service
  • Format should be *.avi, *.mp4, or *wmv

Song

  • May submit a video to accompany the song but the video can only show the students performing the
  • song
  • Song must be 90 seconds or less
  • Need to upload a copy of the lyrics to D2L
  • Must include original lyrics and music
  • This can be recorded as a *.mp3 file or can be a video ( * .avi, *.mp4, or *.wmv)
