Prayers of the Week

We continue on our Lenten Journey – Week 5

The United Nations asks everyone to focus our attention today on WORLD WATER DAY.

Our thought for today, Monday March 22,  2021 is by W. H. Auden

“Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.”

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

This is a prayer by Ruth Williams

God of rain and river,

of stream and storm,

of sea and silent pools,

of waterfall and waterhole,

of wells and waves,

of aquifer and aqueducts,

Hear us as we pray

for water fresh and pure for all.

And guide us to use your water

wisely and well,

ensuring that all your creation

can share in your bounty.

We ask for this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Our Lady – Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Our thought for today, Tuesday March 23, 2021 is by author Tennessee Williams

“Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose.”

Before we pray, let us silently name and pray specifically for a friend who needs some prayers right now…with that friend now in mind…

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord, I give you (thier name) and thank you for them.

I thank you for everything that they are and for all their gifts and talents.

I thank you for the many things that they have given

to others and what they have brought into my life.

I pray for them now for what I think they need…(moment of silence)

You know them even better than do.  You can care for them better than I can!

I am sure You will bring to them everything they need to get through this time.

Let me be a good friend and support them.

May we all walk in hope!

We ask for this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Our Lady – Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Our thought for today, Wednesday March 24,  2021 is by Will Rogers was an American actor, cowboy, columnist, and social commentator

“Don’t Let Yesterday Take Up Too Much Of Today.”

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear God,

Lord Jesus, I pray that You would enable me to forget the things which are past and help me to press forward, knowing that my hope and my future is in You. Help me not to dwell on past hurts and painful memories that enable me to forget what is behind and to walk forward into each new day, holding Your hand.

Lord, I release all of the painful memories I have to You today, and pray that You would help me to renew my mind day by day and to focus my thoughts back to You. Help me also to forgive all those that have caused me pain so that by Your grace, You would help me to fill my heart with new and joyful thoughts.

Lord, I believe that You came to heal the broken-hearted and set the captives free. Wash away all these hurtful memories.

Help me to truly live today not in yesterday.

We ask for this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Our Lady – Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The United Nations asks everyone to remember and focus our attention today on the

International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

For over 400 years, more than 15 million men, women and children were the victims of the tragic transatlantic slave trade, one of the darkest chapters in human history.

Every year on 25 March, the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade offers the opportunity to honour and remember those who suffered and died at the hands of the brutal slavery system. The International Day also aims to raise awareness about the dangers of racism and prejudice today.

Our thought for today, Thursday March 25,  2021 is by singer and activist Harry Belafonte.

“Although slavery may have been abolished, the crippling poison of racism still persists, and the struggle still continues.”

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Loving God

We call to you with hearts in pain for all in our world

who suffered the horrors of slavery and who still suffer the horrors of slavery;

for all who dream of a better life in another place

only to be trapped, tricked and traded, sold and abused.

For all those who labour, forced and unseen, to make our everyday possessions and gift us with conveniences, only to be made fun or terrorized or emotionally tortured.

For all who agonize for loved ones lost into this historical and still current trade of humans.

Your Son came to bring good news to the poor and freedom for the oppressed –

May we too be voices against oppression, racism, abuse.

May we be channels of good news.

May our eyes be opened wide to all who have suffered and those who suffer in our midst, but out of our direct sight.

All this we pray to you, loving God, for whom no one is invisible.

We ask for this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Our Lady – Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Father, we pray that this weekend will be filled with rest, refreshment, and quiet time with You. Our lives can seem so overwhelming and confusing, but we know that You are there by our side always.

We ask for this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
