Prayers of the Week April 26

Our thought for today, Monday April 26, 2021 is by Stephen Hawking

“Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious.”

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord, we confess our rigidity.

It requires work to ask questions.

It requires effort to see a point of view other than mine.

It requires humility to challenge our assumptions.

It requires waiting to hear from You.

Honestly, we lack the resources to change on our own.

Let us pray for curiosity this morning.

Give us open minds and hearts.

Release us from the cynicism that makes everything seem like a lie.

Move us from stuck to rolling down the highway!

Ultimately, we ask You to let us see what You see.

May this become true for others and ourselves.

The Good News of the Gospel motivates our curiosity.

You are the God making all things new.

You offer us new life through the Resurrection.

Provide us the faith like children to ask more questions than making statements.

Today, make us more curious!

Move us from being still to being dynamic!

Let our curiosity see You in ways we have never seen You before!

We ask you for this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Our Lady – Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

“Count your rainbows, not your thunderstorms.”

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Thank You, Lord.  Thank you for all the times You have been there for me even though I didn’t recognize it or see it!

You are my refuge and my strength in hard times and an ever-present helper in times of trouble.

I know that You are all-powerful, and that there is nothing that is too difficult in my life for You to deal with, nor is there any obstacle in my path that is so insurmountable that I cannot cross, knowing that You are by my side.

Please give me Your strength to face today’s hard and troubling times, with the confidence of knowing that Your strength is made perfect in my weakness.

Thank You that my strength comes from You, and that Your grace is sufficient for all the tasks and duties that will cross my daily path, not only for today but for the rest of my journey through life.

Amen.

Our Lady – Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Today is Wednesday April 28,  2021.

Workers are killed by workplace hazards every day. Every year, hundreds of thousands more suffer injury or illness because of their working conditions. They are not forgotten.

April 28 is our National Day of Mourning to remember workers who have suffered work-related disability, disease, and death. The Canadian Labour Congress first declared the Day in 1984. More than 100 countries now observe the Day too.

Unions, Labour councils, families and community partners who gather annually on April 28 to mourn these losses also vow to prevent further suffering. They follow with action in the workplace and community pressing for work that promotes dignity and health.

We pray together…In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Loving God,

Every year on April 28 we pray and remember all those thousands of workers who have been killed, injured, or suffered illness because of work-related incidents.  We also pray for the many families and friends who have been deeply affected by these tragedies.

We ask that You bring them peace and the grace it takes to live your life with the loss of someone you love.

Help every employer to do the right thing and always make safe their places of work for every worker have the right to return home safely at the end of each workday.

Whether it be the teenager who is just starting out in the workplace or the person days away from retiring…we pray that they all be safe in their workplace.  We ask for this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Our Lady…PRAY FOR US!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

“You need to remember that love does not mean one person gives all and another person receives all.”

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Good morning God!

Sometimes we can be in totally one-sided relationships and friendships and not even know it.

Sadly, in some relationships, one person does all the giving, calling, planning, caring, and apologizing.  The other person does nothing…well that’s not true…the other person does a lot of taking and using and abusing a good and loving person.

Help us God to have enough self-worth to realize giving and giving and giving to someone who will never love us anymore than the zero they put back into our relationship or friendship, is keeping us from meeting our true love or true best friend.

Help us to be strong and to love ourselves enough to put ourselves first.

We ask for this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Our Lady – Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Today, Friday April 30, our thought of the today is by Jeremy Sprouse

“We need to learn to be content and thankful for what we have rather than letting our hearts be filled with greed and jealousy.”

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Good morning God,

We all have so much, and we aren’t nearly as grateful as we should be!

Beyond that, we live in Your Goodness every day and we are mostly happy with it until we start to compare ourselves with others.

Some of examples of this?

We love our house until we drive by a bunch of mansions, and we start to say or think, “I wish!”

We think our friend’s parents are way nicer and cooler than our own.

We feel less when we see our friends with cars and fancy electronics that we don’t have.

Help us God to know that everything is about perception and reality.

The perceptions are that the people with the big house have lots of money…maybe they are just barely surviving paying for that house!  You think your friend’s parents are better than yours? Ask your friends and you might find out their parents are never home! Absent parents sometimes just buy off their kids with stuff and money.  The nice car and the latest cell phone you see your friends with…it would be interesting to find out how many of those cars were their parents and LOANED to them.  The cell phones might even be paid for by their parents.  There’s nothing wrong with any of that!  It just means that for you – being thankful for what you have is more important than looking at others with perceptually “more”.

Maybe God we need to be proud for the gift of our jobs!

We need to be thankful for what we have rather than letting our hearts be filled with greed and jealousy.

Help us God to live simply and happily!

We ask for this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Our Lady – Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
