Thank you to all students for submitting their amazing entries!
The submission period is now closed, and we are excited to announce that a judging panel narrowed down the entries – now available online for viewing, as part of the voting process.
You Be the Judge!
Online voting is now OPEN! The online voting process to select the 4 top winners will take place from December 6 (end of day) until December 13, 2019 at 11:59 p.m.
Students, families, staff, and members of the community can vote for their favourite elementary and secondary submissions, once per email address, per day.
Finalists include 4 separate submissions in each of the 4 student groups listed above, which means that in total, 16 students are finalists!
Due to the overwhelming number and variety of submissions received, the finalist submissions in each of the 4 student groups may be a combination of artwork, original songs, short videos, and short stories, but does not guarantee that all of the above-noted categories will be equally represented in the finalist submissions.
All sixteen (16) finalists will be recognized at the December 17th Board Meeting. A prize will be awarded to the top entry in each of the 4 student groups.
Student submissions will also be featured on the Board’s YouTube channel, and posted on the Board’s website leading up to Christmas.
How Were Entries Judged?
A judging panel narrowed down entries by selecting the submissions that demonstrate creativity and originality and best spoke to the theme of the contest. The judging panel did not receive any personal information about contestants (name, age, gender, school, etc.), or any additional information that may influence the selection process.
After the online voting results are tabulated, one (1) student submission that receives the highest number of votes in each of the four (4) student groups will be awarded a top prize. This means that there will be four (4) top prizes!
One (1) top submission in the Primary group will receive a Samsung Tablet.
One (1) top submission in the Junior group will receive a Hewlett Packard Chromebook laptop.
One (1) top submission in the Intermediate group and one (1) top submission in the Secondary group will each receive Apple AirPods.
Winners will be announced at the December 17th Board Meeting.
A special note of appreciation is extended to Halton OECTA Elementary Association and Halton OECTA Secondary Association for their continued partnership and support of the Keeping Christ in Christmas student contest. We are grateful for their generous donations towards the top prizes awarded to the student finalists.
The Halton Catholic District School Board and your child/ren’s school collect student information under the legal authority of The Education Act and its attendant regulations, as well as The Immunization of School Pupils Act and The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. During the school year, students may be involved in a wide variety of events and activities and it is an established practice for the Board and its schools to display and communicate information about these activities through a variety of channels. Parents and guardians of all student entrants must have completed and returned to their school, the Family/Information Consent Form, which is typically collected by each elementary school at the start of every school year. In secondary schools, this form is part of option sheets.
