St. Francis Xavier Community Participates in Who We Are Festival

From April 26 – May 7, 2021, staff and students from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School participated in the Who We Are Festival, a student-led initiative that aims to celebrate our school’s diverse community.

The event was created by the group Representation Matters, a team of students of all grades who are committed to spreading awareness of social justice issues. Representation Matters is part of a larger group, Students of Service (SOS), an organization of students who volunteer to run school and charity events.

From April 26 – 30, SOS had the opportunity to attend guest speaker workshops on topics including anti-Asian racism, anti-Black racism, Anti-Islamophobia, and 2SLGBTQ+ inclusivity.

The following week, Representation Matters ran educational workshops open to all St. Francis Xavier students and teachers.

The event concluded with the school’s third annual Culture Knight, where students had the opportunity to wear clothing related to their culture such as flag colours or national jerseys.

Congratulations, St. Francis Xavier community, for hosting such a successful event to celebrate diversity in our community!
