Black History Month

Hey Hawks! Today is the start of our last full week of Black History Month. This week and next Monday’s theme is “Where do we go from here? How can we celebrate Black history and voices beyond February?” We hope to take what we’ve learned this month and apply it year-round. Today we will focus on the amazing contribution of Violet King, the first black female laywer in Canada, the first black graduate of law in Alberta, and the first black person to be admitted to the Alberta Bar. This contribution paved the way for black people in the legal field ever since. We can take from this the trait of perseverance, and the amazement of being “the first”. What “firsts” can we do in our lives that will benefit those around us and those who come after?

Pink Shirt Day – Wednesday February 23rd

Pink Shirt Day Wednesday February 23:

Loyola will be holding a pink shirt day on Wednesday February 23 to raise awareness and combat bullying in our school. Students can wear a pink shirt and non-uniform bottoms on Wednesday to show their support and take Loyola’s anti-bullying pledge to lift each other up. Students not participating in wearing pink must be in full uniform.
