Orange Shirt Day Paint Event

Thank you to all of the teachers who responded to participate in the Truth and Reconciliation virtual painting session during period 2 on Thursday. 

The session is now fully booked, unfortunately we have no additional spots available.  

Volunteers Needed for Friday

We are looking for lots of staff and student volunteers to help with Orange Shirt Day on Friday, by period. Teachers who are available to help, please use the link included in the email you receive this morning to sign up. For those students wishing to help, please see Mrs. Scott in the Main Office. We will be in touch later this week with further details on how you can help. 

Virtual Student Card Photos

This is a message for all period 1 teachers and students. This morning we have placed the Pegasus photo virtual ID cards and proofs in your mailboxes. Teachers, if you have not picked them up, please send a student down to the office now to get them to be distributed during period 1 today.  

STUDENTS, please note we are no longer printing individual student cards. On the back of the proof sheet are the instructions for how to download your new digital student id card to your phone, and on the front is your unique login password. 

If you did not have your photo taken on one of our two photo days you will have once last chance to have your picture taken on October 26th. Please listen for the announcement reminder. 

And finally, if you are planning to order photos, orders should be submitted by October 3rd

Debate Team

Interested in learning debating techniques, then come out to our next Debate meeting. We had a great turnout for our introductory meeting and hope to see more new and returning members at our next meeting. This week’s Debate Club meeting will be held after school on Wednesday September 27th in Room 137.  New members are always welcome. If you are interested and want to know more about the club, see Mr. Rachner with your questions. We look forward to seeing you this Wednesday.

Reach for the Top Trivia Team

Do you love fun facts, random knowledge, and trivia? Are you completive and like working in a team environment? The you should join our REACH for the Top Trivia Team, where you will get to learn fun trivia and have a chance to compete against other teams within the region.

SHSM Gr. 11 sign up

This announcement is for all grade 11 students – deadline to sign up for a SHSM will be by the end of the day, Wednesday, September 27th. Forms can be picked up in Guidance and dropped off in attendance, or directly to one of our SHSM leads. This year, Loyola will be offering the following Specialist High Skills Majors:

Attention grade 9s & 10s! Are you interested in getting some extra help with math or science? Maybe you need help with French or English? In case you didn’t know, Loyola has a PEER TUTORING PROGRAM! Visit the Student Services D@L page, under the assignments tab to apply. OR come see Ms. Orlando in Student Services for an application form.

If you are in Grade 12 and interested in applying for the Loran Scholarship, make sure you register for the next Loran Webinar at 6pm on Wednesday October 4th.

Also, the Ontario University Virtual Fair is next Tuesday, September 26th from 5-7pm!  See Student Services’ D2L for more information.

Cross Country

The Cross Country team will be attending the first meet of the season, he Dundas Valley Gyphon XC Invitational tomorrow. Athletes registered for the meet are to meet with Ms. Fu and Mr. Sebben tomorrow morning in the Atrium at 8:15. Due to the meet , there will be no training session tomorrow after school.

Boys Varsity Hockey

Attention any boys interested in playing Varsity Hockey this year There will be a very brief meeting after school on Thursday in room 197.

Indigenous Advocacy Committee

We will have a meeting today in the Learning Commons (aka Library) after school.

We would also like to remind everyone that we will be acknowledging National Truth & Reconciliation Day (aka Orang Shirt Day) this Friday, Sept. 29th. Stay tuned for further detail and remember to wear your orange shirt!

GSA – Gender Sexuality Alliance

Hey Loyola, Are you a member of the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community or an ALLY?! Did you know that Loyola has a RICH legacy in “flying the flag” and supporting human rights?! Then this club is for YOU!

Loyola’s GSA – Gender. Sexuality. Alliance. – will be meeting on Wednesday September 27th right after school in room 293. ALL are welcome! You don’t want to miss out on this community building opportunity, so mark it in your calendar and plan to attend!

Student Senate 2023-2024 Applications

Are you in grade 9 and looking to gain leadership skills and confidence? Do you want to stand up for the issues that you and your fellow students are passionate about? Consider joining the Student Senate, a board wide organization made up of student representatives, which looks to advocate for student voice at the board level. Popcorn Sales

The Life Skills class is selling fresh hot popcorn on 3B lunch. $1 cash only per bag. All sales support our Life Skills co-op program.

Bussing

This is an announcement for students who take the school bus. Bus departure times for Wave 1 are at 2:35. Please note, that if you are on a wave one departure and are not on the bus by 2:35 you will miss your bus. Also, busses cannot stop and allow students to board once departed. Please do not try to board the bus once it has left it’s boarding spot.
