Loyola Art Show

Hi Hawks, the art students at Loyola would like to invite you to the Library to see the Art Show occuring Wednesday to Friday all day this week. Teachers, you are welcome to bring your students to the library to see it at any time.

MLL Live Different Leaders

To all MLL Live Different Leaders, there will be a brief planning meeting immediately after school on Tuesday April 30 in Room 247. Please see Mr. Mojica if you have any questions or cannot make it.

Track & Field

The Loyola Track and Field Team competed in Ms. Coutu’s old stomping grounds at the Niagara Olympic Club in St. Catharines and had one of the broadest team successes across all events that the team has had at any meet with the following top results: 

Senior Girls 100m: Debbie Suleman 1st place, Alyssa Stephenson 2nd place 

Novice Girls 400m: Violeta Ortega 2nd place 

Senior Boys 400m: Josh Chakravarty 2nd place 

Junior Boys 100m Hurdles: Tyler Laretei 2nd place 

Novice Boys Long Jump: Jerran Gapasin 2nd place 

Junior Boys Javelin Luca Toteda 4th place 

Junior Boys Shot Put: Luca Toteda 4th place 

Senior Girls Shot Put: Amy Scott 3rd place 

Senior Boys High Jump: Kamso Okwosa 2nd – Kamso is the first athlete to compete in and medal in the High Jump Event for Loyola in the last 20 years! 

Notable results for Loyola’s toughest Track athletes were Natalia Murillo who showed her characteristic grit and power to edge out her teammates and take a 5th place in the Senior Girls 400m and Erik Derakshan who powered through the grueling 1500m race to take 5th place in the Senior Boys division. Excellent results across the entire team.

Prom Committee Meeting

There will be a prom committee meeting today in room 211 at lunch.

Graduation Award Self Nominations

Attention grade 12s. This a reminder that your graduation award self nominations are due this tomorrow. All details are posted on D2L. See Mrs. Smith in room 211 with any questions.

Spring Hospitality Lunch

Hello teachers. Spring is in the air! So celebrate by enjoying a 3 course lunch prepared by our hospitality students. Please check your email for your invitation. First come first serve. Will you select the Avocado shrimp salad, the Brie, turkey and cranberry panini or the the pesto sundried tomato pasta…..whichever one it is all made from scratch. Spots are limited and you can even pick who ya sit with.

Message to Mentors

To all mentors helping out with the Wednesday May 1st Arts & Technology Day: We have a brief meeting in room 167 on Tuesday after school. This is the day before the event so it is important that everyone attends. The meeting should be 20 minutes or less. See you then!

Steam Society

“Attention grade nines and tens! If you are interested in science, technology, engineering, art, or math, come explore these different aspects of STEAM through hands on activities and experiments! Join the STEAM Society on Tuesday, April 30 in room 163 after school. For more information, scan the QR codes posted around the school. Again, join us TUESDAY after school in room 163!”

Computer Programming Contest

Attention all coders! St. Lawrence College in Kingston is hosting a remote team computer programming contest. Each team can have up to 4 students. It will be on Friday May 10th in Rm 285 periods 1 – 3. Each team will be given a copy of 6 programming questions and you have 3 hours to solve as many as you can using ONE computer. If you are interested or have questions, email Mrs. Alfano at alfanoa@hcdsb.org. Don’t miss out on this great team coding experience!

Indigenous Advocacy Committee

This is a reminder that the Indigenous Advocacy Committee will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, April 30th during 3A lunch, at 11:10, in the Main Office Conference Room and we would like to ask all current members to attend if you are able to. We would also like to invite anyone else, staff and students who are interested in equity and social justice issues that impact the Indigenous community. Being a part of this important team will provide you with some wonderful opportunities to help to plan, organize and participate in our upcoming Diaper and Summer Fun Drive for families in need at Six Nations of the Grand River reserve, as well as National Indigenous History Month which takes place for the month of June. If you are interested and want to help us with these important upcoming events, please come to our meeting or see Mrs. Scott in the main office!

Tennis tryouts

Tennis tryouts will be cancelled tomorrow (Tuesday) morning and will resume on Wednesday, weather permitting.

Multicultural Day

Hey Hawks! Multicultural Day is coming back to Loyola on Wednesday, May 15th! If you are interested in having your own booth to showcase your culture on both lunches and/or perform in the multicultural show during Period 4, come to our meeting on Tuesday, April 30th in Room 298 at 2:30pm!
