St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Secondary School has reached an important milestone in our commitment to academic excellence and global-minded education. Our school has officially been authorized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School for the Diploma Programme!
This achievement follows a rigorous candidacy phase that began in June 2023. Throughout this process, St. Kateri Tekakwitha worked closely with the International Baccalaureate Organization to ensure our programs, teaching practices, and student supports align with the IB’s internationally recognized standards. Authorization as an IB World School reflects the dedication of staff, students, and families to high-quality, challenging, and meaningful learning.
As an IB World School, St. Kateri Tekakwitha joins a global community of more than 5,000 schools in over 150 countries that share a common philosophy – developing inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who are prepared to contribute to a more peaceful and interconnected world.
The IB Pathway at St. Kateri Tekakwitha CSS
The IB Diploma Programme is a two-year program offered in Grades 11 and 12 that challenges students academically while supporting their personal growth. Students study subjects in greater depth, develop strong critical-thinking and research skills, and learn to approach complex issues with confidence and curiosity.
To support students on this pathway, St. Kateri Tekakwitha offers a Grade 9 and 10 Pre-IB Programme. The Pre-IB Programme is designed to help students build the skills and habits needed for success in the IB Diploma Programme and is a required step for students wishing to enter the program in Grade 11.
Preparing Students for What’s Next
Globally, IB Diploma Programme students are highly successful in their post-secondary pathways, with the vast majority continuing on to university. Beyond academic outcomes, the IB Programme emphasizes transferable skills such as critical thinking, effective communication, collaboration, and global awareness – skills that serve students well long after graduation.
