Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) is a specialized Gr. 11 and 12 program that allows students from all pathways to focus their learning in a specialized area. Students will register in Grade 10 in preparation for entry into the program in Grade 11. This video gives an overview of the SHSM program.
The Ministry of Education has approved the following SHSM programs for St. Kateri:
- Arts and Culture (Lead: Mrs. Tolan)
- Business (Leads: Mr. Aslett, Mr. Cianciolo, Mr. Page)
- Non-Profit, Education, and Childcare (Lead: Ms. Belmonte and Ms. Trahiotis)
- ICT – Information and Communication Technology (Leads: Mrs. Meinen and Mr. Patzelt)
- Sports (Leads: Mrs. Bradley & Mr. Paquette)
These programs provide enhanced learning experiences (i.e: field trips, guest speakers, workshops, etc.) and industry specific certifications (such as Standard First Aid, WHMIS) as part of the graduation components. Students will also take two credits of Co-Operative Education in their SHSM sector.
