Student Services

Volunteer hours will be accepted after September 22nd. We appreciate your patience as we work through this busy time.

Attention grade 11s and 12s! Are you interested in getting some volunteer hours? Are you really good at math and/or science? If so, WE NEED YOU! We are looking for peer tutors in math and science – please contact Ms. Orlando in Student Services or fill out an application on the Student Services D@L page under “Assignments”. The commitment is 1-2 times a week and the hours can be put towards your community service hours graduation requirement!

Also if you are in Grade 12 and interested in applying for the Loran Scholarship, make sure you attend one of the Loran Webinars!  The first one is next Monday, September 25th at noon.  See the Student Services D2L for more information.

Ultimate Frisbee

A reminder that co-ed pick-up Ultimate Frisbee intramurals are happening again this week on Thursday, after school, on the side grass field.

No experience necessary! This is NOT a tryout. In order to participate, you must have a singed permission form and a pair of cleats. Please pick up a permission form from workroom 176 across from the Music Room on your lunch, if you haven’t already done so.

Indigenous Advocacy Committee

This is an important message for all our Loyola Staff and Student Hawks!

Are you interested in equity and social justice issues that impact the Indigenous community? Reconciliation and reconcilaction? If so, we hope you will consider becoming a part of our Indigenous Advocacy Committee here at Loyola. The goal of this committee is to provide experiential learning to learn more about indigenous culture, and indignous ways of knowing and being.

Being a part of this important team will provide you with some wonderful opportunities to help to plan, organize and participate in several very important events which will take place throughout the school year. Some upcoming events include Orange Shirt Day, Red Dress Day, Treaties Recognition Week and themed activities for both students and staff.

If you are interested in joining, please come to a meeting TODAY at 2:30 in the Learning Commons (aka Library). If you have any questions or want to learn more about us before the meeting, please see Mrs. Scott in the Main Office.

Tech Crew/Audio Visual Club

The AV Club/Tech crew has its first meeting this Wednesday, September 20th. This club takes care of all our sound and video equipment and sets up for guest speakers, school liturgies and special presentations. We are accepting new members and welcoming back our crew from last year. So come out this Wednesday after school in room 167. Hope to see you there!

GSA – Gender Sexuality Alliance

Hey Loyola, Are you a member of the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community or an ALLY?! Did you know that Loyola has a RICH legacy in “flying the flag” and supporting human rights?! Then this club is for YOU!

Loyola’s GSA – Gender. Sexuality. Alliance. – will be meeting on Wednesday September 27th right after school in room 293. ALL are welcome! You don’t want to miss out on this community building opportunity, so mark it in your calendar and plan to attend!

Debate Club

Anyone interested in joining the Debate Club, we will be having our first meeting on Tuesday Sept. 19th after school in room 137. If you require further information please see Mr. Rachner. Looking forward to seeing new and returning members!

Student Senate 2023-2024 Applications

Are you in grade 9 and looking to gain leadership skills and confidence? Do you want to stand up for the issues that you and your fellow students are passionate about? Consider joining the Student Senate, a board wide organization made up of student representatives, which looks to advocate for student voice at the board level. Applications are open now for all grade 9 students until September 27th. If you have any questions please contact your local student trustee, Lauren McGuire at McGuireL@hcdsb.org.

Jr. & Sr. Girls Basketball

A reminder – both senior and junior girls basketball teams will practice today after school. Seniors will start immediately at 2:30 , juniors will start at 3:00 until 4:15.

Student Council

Loyola Golf Team

The Loyola Golf Team was in action yesterday for the first tournament of the year. The team battled on a cold and windy day for a strong showing. Highlights include Even Young and Adrian Arruda sitting 3rd and 4th overall in the Boys group, while Kaitlyn Ellis sits 4th in the Girls group. The Team is looking forward to Round 2 next week.

Popcorn Sales

The Life Skills class is selling fresh hot popcorn on 3B lunch. $1 cash only per bag. All sales support our Life Skills co-op program.

Friendfest Reminders

Attention all grade 9 students, a few reminders for your Friendfest trip.  

  1. Nests 1 – 10 will go on the trip on Wednesday and Nest 11 – 21 go on Thursday. Please make sure that the day you are not on the trip you are in class. 
  1. Please meet your mentor in the cafeteria in the day of your trip by 8:15am, you DO NOT have to go to period 1. 
  1. You will find bus lists posted on the doors outside the cafeteria, find your name on the list and report to the number posted in the cafeteria and wait with your mentor for further instructions. 
  1. You are to wear comfortable civvies with closed toe and heel athletic shoes.  
  1. Pack a full lunch with water. There is no where to purchase anything. 
  1. Bring sunscreen and bug spray. 
  1. If applicable, please bring your EPI pen and any medication your might need that day. 

If there are any questions, you mentor will be happy to help you or please see Mrs. Cheal in room 135. She is always willing to help.
