Remembrance Day Today

This is an announcement for all Staff and Students to remind you that TODAY, November 11th, is Remembrance Day. Every year, from the last Friday of October to November 11th, tens of millions of Canadians wear a poppy as a visual pledge to hour Canada’s veterans and remember those who sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today.

While the Poppy is distributed freely to all who wish to wear one, the Legion gratefully accepts donations to the Poppy Fund. Donations collected directly support Veterans and their families within their community and to help ensure Canadians “never forget”.

We have Poppies boxes available in both the Main Office and in the Attendance Office.

Treaties Week

An important message from the Indigenous Advocacy Committee. Treaties are formal and lawfully binding agreements made between countries, communities, and individuals. They can be thought of as promises that cannot legally be broken. Treaties between Indigenous groups and the Canadian Government are constitutional agreements that define the rights of Indigenous peoples and the obligations required from both sides. The first treaty made between Indigenous peoples and the Government of Canada was signed by Lord Selkirk, a Scottish Earl, and leaders of the Chippewa and Cree Nations on July 18, 1817. These formal agreements have ensured that the rights of Indigenous people are legally recognized and that their sacred land is used in a lawful manner. To conclude Treaties Recognition Week, the Indigenous Advocacy Committee encourages all Loyola students to do further research regarding the importance of treaties.

Sr. Girls Basketball Champions!

Yesterday, the Sr. Girls Basketball Team travelled to Sheridan College for the HCAA Final. They put on an amazing performance against a competitive Bishop Reding team and came out with a win, bringing the trophy home to Loyola! Grade 9 Nikki Rupcich was our leading scorer with 20 points. Congratulations to this talented group of girls, finishing off the season with an impressive undefeated record! Go Hawks and good luck at GHAC semi finals next week!
