Today’s Fact.  What is a 2-row wampum belt?

Wampum are white or purple beads made from either Whelk or Quahog (ko-hog) shells.  Over 400 years ago, the Haudenosaunee wanted an agreement between themselves and the Dutch Europeans. The newcomers were claiming land to live on and use… the traditional land of the Haudenosaunee people.   Wampum belts were a symbol of agreements between First Nations peoples, long before the arrival of Europeans. They created a Wampum belt as their lasting reminder of an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and the newcomers.  You can see an example of the 2-row wampum belt on the internet.
