Culture of Life Club

This week’s meeting will take place on TODAY in room 147 at 2:30. It will be short and painless but important!

Computer Science Education Week!

Next week is Computer Science Education Week! The theme this year is Impacts of Computing. Starting on Monday, 5 words will be said curing morning announcements. These words are clues to the “computer science word of the day”. Guess the word and you may win a prize!

HOSA Club

If you’re interested in going into the healthcare industry, social sciences, forensics, kinesiology, dentistry, or veterinary medicine, the HOSA club might be for you! HOSA allows you to participate in Canada’s largest health science competition that takes place in May of next year, while gaining teamwork and leadership skills, as well as more knowledge in your interests. If this is something you’d like to be involved in, come to the Library on Monday, December 4th, after school for more information. All grades are welcome.

International Day of People with Disabilities

This week has been dedicated to celebrating the abilities of everyone we meet and know and love. International Day of Persons with Disabilities was created to bring awareness to people living with disabilities, to see their differences and learn more about what makes them unique and by doing that we find ways to be more inclusive. But is has also been about recognizing that people with disabilities are not that much different, that there are so many things that are the same between all of us. That while we want to see and celebrate the differences, we want to embrace and recognize the similarities. How can we become ability-allies?

As we moved through many announcements this week and found ways to learn more about people with disabilities, we found many chances to learn more about ourselves, our friends and the people in our community. We started to realize that we are all diverse in our abilities and in our weaknesses. And that’s OK! It’s better than OK! It’s Great! That ALL abilities have to be recognized and respected and valued. Just as you would want someone to acknowledge the great things in you, we have to take time to recognize the great things in others

Let’s please remember when this week is done and the announcements have stopped that what you have learned this week needs to continue That is when the real work begins! Keep seeing the abilities in others and in yourselves and remember that having a disability doesn’t make anyone less than anyone else.

In the words of Pope Francis “A person with disabilities, in order to build himself or herself up, needs not only to exist but also to belong to a community, “he said. “I pray that each person may feel the paternal gaze of God, who affirms their full dignity and the unconditional value of their life.”
