Dear Grade 9 Students and Families,
We are looking forward to welcoming our newest students to Assumption Catholic Secondary School. Grade 9 Orientation is an opportunity for students to get to know the school, meet some of their classmates, and feel more comfortable before the first day. Our newest Assumption students will be greeted by both our Student Council and Ambassador students!
Grade 9 Orientation will take place on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Registration begins at 9:00 a.m., and the orientation program will begin at 9:30 a.m. Students will take part in a welcome gathering, school tours, activities with their peers, and lunch. Dismissal will be at 12:00 p.m.
Orientation Day Information
Lunch
- Pizza will be provided. Students should bring a refillable water bottle.
- If your child has a dietary restriction, please complete the following form:
Lockers and Combination Locks
- Beginning this year, every Assumption student will receive a school provided combination lock for their locker. We anticipate the locks to be in for the orientation so students will be able to practice their new combos. The Assumption Ambassadors will be on hand to provide a tutorials.
- Only school issued locks may be used on school lockers. Students should not bring a personal lock.
Timetables
- Students attending orientation will receive a copy of their timetable. Some timetable changes may still occur as we prepare for the beginning of the school year.
- Please note that Guidance staff will not be able to consider timetable change requests during the school start-up period. Requests for a particular teacher or to be placed in classes with friends cannot be accommodated.
Network Passwords
- Students coming from an HCDSB feeder school will use the same network password they used in Grade 8.
- Students who are new to HCDSB will receive their password during Orientation.
Used Uniform Sale
- Our Catholic School Council will hold a Used Uniform Sale in the small cafeteria from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tap payment will be available.
New Uniform Purchases
- Families who need new Assumption uniform items are encouraged to visit McCarthy Uniforms in Oakville early. The store becomes very busy as the first day of school approaches, so planning ahead can help you avoid the crowds.
Physical Education Uniforms
- Reminder: Students will purchase their gym uniform through their physical education teacher.
Junior and Senior Football Tryouts
- Junior and Senior Football tryouts will run from August 31 to September 3. Students interested in trying out should follow @Assumptionftbl on Instagram for schedules and more information.
A Few Updates for September
Uniform Footwear
- Beginning in September 2026, students may wear shoes of any colour as part of the Assumption uniform. Students may choose sneakers or dress shoes.
- All footwear must have a closed back for safety. Birkenstocks, Crocs, slippers, sandals, and other open back footwear are not permitted. This also applies on Civvies Days.
New Portable Classrooms
- Assumption continues to grow. To make room for our increasing enrolment, four new portable classrooms will be added at the back of the school. They will be located close to the main building and will provide additional classroom space for our students.
New School Hours
- Beginning in September 2026, the Assumption school day will run from 8:10 a.m. until 2:10 p.m. This change will help align transportation services with the Halton District School Board and Halton Student Transportation Services.
- Transportation schedules will be shared as they become available. Questions or concerns about student transportation should be directed to Halton Student Transportation Services through the HSTS website.
Changes to Lunch Periods
- Beginning in the 2026 to 2027 school year, lunches will no longer be assigned by grade. Students in Grades 9 through 12 may have lunch during either Period 3 or Period 4, depending on their timetable.
- This change gives the school more flexibility when building student timetables. It will also make it easier to offer mixed grade and specialty courses and provide students with more course options connected to their interests and pathway goals.
