FASD Awareness Day – Wear Red Socks with Uniform

September 8, 2023

As many of you may already be aware, FASD Awareness Day is held every year on September 9th.  This day is set aside to increase knowledge and understanding about FASD.  This year, HCDSB will be recognizing FASD Awareness Day on Friday, September 8, 2023. To show your support, staff and students are encouraged to wear RED SOCKS along with their FULL UNIFORM.

The colour red was chosen to align with the “red shoes rock” global awareness campaign giving voice and support to those affected by prenatal alcohol exposure.  RJ Formanek, an adult with FASD, decided to wear RED SHOES to stand out, be noticed and have some fun starting the FASD conversation with others.  FASD Day is an opportunity to turn invisibility into visibility, create conversation, and change stigma into understanding and acceptance.

Join us tomorrow in RED SOCKS to join the conversation on this important day.
