Grade 9 student, Preston Mutanga, animated a LEGO sequence for the movie ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’!

Preston was approached with the opportunity after sharing a shot-by-shot LEGO rendition of the original movie trailer on Twitter.

Chris Lord and Phil Miller, producers of the movie, saw the post and were extremely impressed.

“It blew us all away, including some of the best animators in the world,” said Phil Miller.

After seeing Preston’s rendition of the trailer, which he created on Blender, a computer graphics 3D software, he was presented with the opportunity to animate a scene for the movie.

Throughout March Break and during the evenings, Preston worked on the LEGO sequence and checked back in with the movie producers for feedback.

“I adored the first movie and was so hyped for the second one, so getting to work with the people who actually made this masterpiece was honestly like a dream,” said Preston.

In the future, Preston’s goal is to become a full-time animator.

Congratulations on making it to the big screen, Preston! The St. FX and HCDSB community is beyond proud!
