S.T.E.A.M. Program

Application acceptance emails will go out in January 2026

The Halton Catholic District School Board is now offering the S.T.E.A.M. Program at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School in Milton!

STEAM is a holistic approach to learning that interconnects multiple subject areas: Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics. These subjects are used as access points for guiding student learning through:

  • Problem/Project-based Learning
  • Inquiry
  • Design Process/Thinking
  • Collaboration

STEAM prepares our students for future work through dynamic and relevant learning experiences that are rooted in the real-world. The students of tomorrow need to adapt and react to a rapidly changing world; a future in which some jobs do not yet exist. Empowering students to be the architects of their own learning and guiding them through that process is what STEAM educators aim to accomplish.

About the S.T.E.A.M. Program at St. Francis Xavier

STEAM courses will run in a year long blended delivery format by STEAM educators enabling collaboration between courses

  • For example an alternating course schedule: STEAM subjects will either be Morning or Afternoon
  • Course delivery will be flexible and driven by student interest (see next slide for example!)

Non-STEAM courses will run in a standard course delivery structure.

All Grade 8 students can apply!

  • Acceptance into the STEAM program will not be based on grades!
  • Program is meant to align with students’ goals, interests, and aspirations in life
  • There must be desire to authentically apply course content to real world problem solving
  • Problem/project-based learning that is hands on and connected to school, local, and global issues
  • Applications are still open!
