Prayers of the Week

We continue on our Lenten Journey – This is the Second week of Lent!

Our thought for today, Monday March 1,  2021 is by Clement of Alexandria who was a Christian theologian and philosopher who lived from 150 to 211AD

“PRAYER IS A CONVERSATION WITH GOD.”

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Good morning God!

Before Mother Teresa passed away, she made an appearance on the late evening talk show Nightline with Ted Koppel.  She was about 75 years old at the time.  He asked her if she prayed and she replied, “All the time.” He then asked her what she said to God.  She looked at him with a little corner smile and said, “I say nothing, I just listen.”  Now Ted Koppel was confused and then asked her, “Well, what does God say to you?”  She smiled again and replied, “ He says nothing.  He listens too!”

How can a conversation be a conversation without words?

Ask a little old couple who walk for 45 minutes through a park only holding hands and not saying a word.  Ask a mom who, in the middle of the night, nurses her child.  Ask a grown man who quietly sits and keeps his vigil by his father’s bedside in a Hospice.

No words are spoken, but something is definitely being conveyed.

Maybe our best conversations with God are when we listen and say not much of anything.  Let’s listen more than we speak today, and that will be our day long prayer.

We ask for this quiet through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Our Lady – Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Our thought for today, Tuesday March 2, 2021 is by the Greek philosopher Aristotle.

“The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.!”

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear God,

When schooling gets a bit boring, or when we sit around and complain about “When are we ever going to use this stuff?” help us to understand that knowledge is not always about knowing every little thing.  Knowledge is about acquiring a base information to figure out many different things. Something we learn today might save our lives or help us out of a jam tomorrow or ten years from now.  Let us be a sponge for information God.  Let it seep in and make us wise.

We ask for this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Our Lady – Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Our thought for today, Wednesday March 3,  2021 is by Mikhail Naimy who was a Lebanese Greek Orthodox poet, novelist and philosopher.

“Rub your eyes and be awake.”

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Good morning God!

Some of us sleepwalk through our lives!  We do the same things every day.  We don’t consider why we do what we do.  We do not look around and see other people’s joy or sadness.  We don’t ever leave our town.  We don’t know what’s happening in the world.

We are sleepwalking!

It’s not easy to open our eyes.  Have you ever been in a deep sleep and the alarm goes off and you are all over the place…you can’t find your phone or manage to hit your alarm clock…you are rubbing your eyes that have a hard time opening?  Any light seems too bright to bear.  Sometimes you are wobbling and tripping when getting up.  You are holding on to the wall or the door frame as you make your way to bathroom or shower or kitchen.  Opening your eyes is hard, but you need to do it to wake up, to live your life in a safe and alert way.  So, during this prayer during Lent, we are challenged to rub our eyes and wake up to the needs of the poor and other people in general.  We are called to be one!  We are called to care for one another…we can’t do that if we don’t open our eyes!  Help us God to rub our eyes and be awake!

We ask for this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Our Lady – Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Our thought for today, Thursday March 4,  2021 is by William Joseph Hammer (American pioneer electrical engineer and aviator and he was president of the Edison Pioneers starting in 1908.)

“Don’t try to hold God’s hand; let Him hold yours. Let Him do the holding, and you do the trusting.”

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Good morning God!

Loving God,

We need to let go.  We sometimes feel the need to control every situation in our lives, and that includes our relationship with You.  When we pray to You and when we don’t get our way, we can get resentful.  When we turn things over to You, and You don’t work in OUR time, we take it back like a three-year-old, taking his shovel and pail back in kindergarten sandbox fight! When we don’t get what we want when we want it – we’re all angry and miserable.  Clear our minds! Help us to embrace patience and more faith in You!

Help us to think more like this: We reach out our hands and YOU take hold of us.  YOU love us and YOU call us to be better people.  YOU show us the way to Your love.  YOU teach us how to trust.  We then have to learn to TRUST YOU! While we are waiting for our prayers to be answered, let us trust Your perfect timing.

WE do the reaching out and the trusting and You God can do the rest!  Let us reach out for You today and always!

We ask for this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Our Lady – Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Our thought for today, Friday March 5,  2021 is from the book of Isaiah chapter 40 verse 1

“Comfort my people.” says your God.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

God,

There are so many sad people in our world.  They are sad for things they have lost, or the things they are about to lose.  There are sad people because of finances or health concerns.  They are sad because of broken hearts and children that move away.  They are sad because they are lonely and feel like they have no meaning in their lives.  Call each of us to serve You by reaching out to these people.  Let us sit and really listen to someone who is hurting.  Let us lighten their load by helping where we can.  When God says to comfort His people, it’s not just a request, it’s a direction.

Amen.

Our Lady – Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
