S.T.E.A.M

STEAM at Notre Dame was started in 2017 to bring Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math together, outside of the classroom. Beginning with a weekly club, our students participated in challenges and visited STEM related schools and businesses. It wasn’t before long that Wednesday’s became known as STEAM day.

Our philosophy with STEAM has always been to build community and engage students through experience. What started as one club slowly evolved into many small programs highlighting our school greenhouse, science labs, and technology rooms. We have taken this philosophy of learning through experience into the classroom where students participate in large scale, multi-disciplinary projects that are ongoing throughout the term.

At Notre Dame, STEAM provides a chance for students to apply their learning, be part of a larger community, and explore their passions.

We hope that one day, you will be able to join our community, and show off your talents and passion.

GO STEAM!

Executive Team

Our STEAM club is an opportunity for students to develop their leadership skills. Each year we choose an executive committee to help plan, carry out, and debrief on the weekly events. Each student has a role and responsibility to communicate with members and teachers, helping them to grow as future leaders with fundamental skills for the world outside of education.

We are proud to announce this year’s 2023/2024 STEAM Executive:

CEO CVO CCO
IT Rep 1 Rep 2

Grade 9 STEAM Project

At Notre Dame, we promote collaborative learning. Our students undertake a 15-week program within their classes to learn valuable communication, leadership, and technical skills applied to a chosen topic. This year students will continue with our theme of renewable energy and examine the impact and design of electric cars.

As this topic is applied throughout their curricula, students will also be tasked with building a physical, working model. By placing students at the centre of the issues and technology being studied, we aim to open up their learning to a variety of fields within the economy directly and indirectly related to the electric car industry.

Senior STEAM Projects

Our senior students have undertaken a variety of projects to connect their curriculum to renewable energy sources. As a school, we encourage our students to address the issues of today, and come up with potential solutions in a field that works towards sustainable energy. Through design, prototyping, research, and application, students have proposed developed solutions to issues faced throughout their communities.

ND STEAM Outreach

One of the fundamental components of our program is the connections we make in the community. Our students have the opportunity to learn from and visit industry connections and post-secondary institutions.

We also place an emphasis on connecting and mentoring with our elementary panel. Students plan and help run STEAM days to engage students, and STEAM nights for families to participate in together.
