Prayers of the Week June 14-18

Today is Monday June 14th 2021. We continue to remember and pray for the 215 Indigenous children who were found buried at the Residential School in Kamloops BC.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O God, we are still grieving.

O God, we are still shocked.

O God, we are will always be horrified.

We grieve for the Indigenous children,

taken from their homes and parents by the government,

handed over to the responsibility of the Catholic and other Christian churches,

the children who died under its care,

never to be held by their families,

never to be returned to their communities –

not only the 215 children of the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc

but all of those children whose bodies have not yet been found

who died in any of our Residential Schools.

We grieve for the survivors of the Indian Residential Schools,

the children who did come home,

but were changed by their experience,

the children who grew up way too fast because they had to survive these institutions,

and have the trauma of remembering, again, what happened to them.

Help us to stop, to sit in silence and to remember the names we do not know.

May their spirits have peace, and their bodies be brought home to their lands.

Help us to take this grief, this shock, this horror, and turn it into right action –

action that works for right relations – action that works for healing, justice, and hope.

And, please, don’t let those of us who are all settlers on their land,

just let it be an outpouring of words, or tears, or useless hand-wringing.

Let this be a moment that changes,

a moment that transforms the brokenness,

that we might walk in true reconciliation,

for the good of Your children,

for the good of Your world.

Please, God we pray for these things.

Amen.

For all these 215 children OUR LADY – pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Today is Tuesday June 15th 2021 and the United Nations has marked this day as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day so we will pray for this today.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord, we ask that You would be a source of comfort for our elderly family members and neighbours who find themselves living alone. Would you grant them an intimate awareness of Your presence, the knowledge that You go before them wherever they go, and so they are never truly alone.

Father, we pray that You would soften our hearts to our elderly (even the cranky and miserable ones). Stir us to love them in both word and deed. Holy Spirit, move us toward action, help us to slow down, to take the time to offer care and assistance to our elderly neighbours and famliy members for whom daily life has become a struggle.

Jesus, we know that You are a great healer, and we pray that You would grant our elderly neighbours and family members improved health, safe living conditions, and supportive community to come around them. We want to see our elderly parents, grandparents, and neighbours thrive!

We pray for all those who work with our elderly people.

Let doctors and nurses be patient and listen closely to their stories and concerns.

May they use their talents and gifts in terms of medicine to keep them healthy and comfortable.

Finally, we pray for all workers in rest homes and palliative care units, that they respect and honour their patients.  May they not get angry or frustrated with elderly people who are not themselves due to metal challenges, Alzheimers, or Dementia.

May all our elderly across the world be treasured, loved, and taken care of!

We ask for all of this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

OUR LADY… pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Today is Wednesday June 16th 2021. Our thought for today is:

“If you wait until your life becomes happy, you will miss out on all the happiness along the way.”

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Joyous God!

Please help me to rest in your happiness,

To allow a smile to linger on my lips,

To dwell within a wonderful memory,

To walk back through sunlit places.

Please help me to awake each morning with hope,

To engage with life in all its variety,

To take in the beauty of other moments of joy,

To touch the souls of those I meet with thankfulness and kindness.

Please help me to sing with faith,

To carry the truth, close in my heart always,

To rejoice at new life and

To have peace as I live every day.

Please help me to indulge in love, friendship, and laughter.

Let me work at being happy.

Please help me not to miss a single drop of Heaven,

To catch each moment,

And enjoy in the great joys of life.

Amen.

OUR LADY…Pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Today is Thursday June 17th 2021. Our thought for today is by the singer P!NK

“Dream BIG because what if it happens?”

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Good morning God,

Sometimes dreaming big dreams for ourselves seems like we are being a bit self-centred!

Help us to know that is not true!

Dreams are a great vehicle that moves us forward!

You want us to use every talent and gift you have given to us.

You want our talents to touch the lives of others.

Help us to dream big!!

So, if and when it happens, we will not have sold ourselves short!

With Your help, hard work and dedication…help us to know we can achieve anything!

We ask for this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
