Culture Day – April 25th

Our students and staff have been excitedly planning Culture Day at Notre Dame on Thursday April 25, 2024. Students are encouraged to wear cultural attire (traditional clothing that reflects one’s cultural heritage), dress in the colours of their flag, or wear what they feel represents their culture and heritage.

During our common lunch from 11 AM to 1 PM on the 25th, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in a variety of student and community lead activities including: dominoes, soccer, braiding lessons, cat’s cradle, learn a new language, learn how to use chopsticks, take a Latin dance lesson, participate in a rap battle, lotería (bingo), and enjoy Polish polka!
  • Sample cuisine from around the world made by our Asian Student Union, Black Student Union and Latino & Hispanic Student Union.
  • Purchase food from a variety of food trucks in front of the school.

This afternoon will provide an opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate the beautiful cultural diversity that is Notre Dame.

To facilitate the day, students will have the opportunity to purchase tickets (from April 15 to 19) for food items prepared by our student unions ahead of time. Each ticket will cost $2 and will entitle students to one portion of food. The $2 food options include:

  • Dumplings
  • Deep fried won-tons
  • Jollof rice
  • Plantain
  • Flan
  • Horchata (beverage)
  • Pop & Water

Students will be allowed to purchase a maximum of 5 tickets ($10) on School Cash Online to ensure as many students as possible can participate. Each food item will be capped at 300 pieces. A very limited number of tickets will be available on the day of for cash purchase and will be available until sold out.

Additionally, students can access four food trucks on April 25 in front of the school. The food trucks have items priced from $5-$20 and will take cash and card. 10% of all sales will be donated back to our ASU, BSU and LHSU. The food trucks include:

We look forward to an amazing day celebrating cultural diversity and building community.
