Kate McKenna

Kate McKenna is an experienced television producer and on-air personality, working on shows such as CTV’s The Social, CTV’s Your Morning and the CFL on TSN. Her on-camera career began in 2010 with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, where she was the team’s online and in-game host. From there, she defeated thousands of applicants to win Transat Holiday’s award-winning “Vacationer Wanted” campaign, which propelled her on a year-long travel journey – tasked with creating digital content along the way. She has also been a writer and content creator for The Hamilton Spectator, CBC Sports, and the Canadian Football League. She got her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University. She also earned a post-graduate certificate in public relations from Mohawk College. While at STA Kate was chosen Student of the Year and class Valedictorian and was awarded the prestigious Governor Generals Award of merit. She was also a key member of the OFSAA Silver medal Senior Girls Basketball and Soccer teams.

Kara Lang Romero

Kara Lang Romero play soccer for Canada in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and the 2003 and 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cups. After graduating from UCLA, she went on to work in Sports Media for 5 years before pursuing a career in Nutrition and starting her own business, KLR Wellness Works. Kara lives in Hermosa Beach California with her husband and two young boys. In her grade 9 Year at STA, Kara was a key member of the OFSAA Silver medal Senior Girls Basketball and Soccer teams.

Melanie Ng

As Breakfast Television’s News Anchor, Melanie delivers the information Torontonians need to know every morning. Since joining CityNews in 2010, Melanie has covered some of the biggest events to hit Toronto and the GTA. From moderating political debates to anchoring Toronto International Film Festival red carpet coverage, Melanie’s biggest strength is her versatility.

Melanie was the face of the CityNews weekend newscasts before helping re-launch CityNews “The 5” in 2013 as a co-anchor. She was also seen regularly on Breakfast Television live on-location on the morning’s top stories, occasional news anchor and co-hosting segments with Breakfast Television hosts. Melanie returned full-time to her morning show family in 2015.

Before joining Citytv, Melanie worked for CHCH News, and local Ontario radio stations in such roles as reporter, videographer, and weekend news anchor. Before pursuing a career in broadcast journalism, she worked in public relations.

Melanie is the co-host of the award-nominated “Moms In The Middle” podcast, named one of the “Best of 2019” by Apple Podcasts.  She enjoys discussing all things parenthood, having collaborated with Today’s Parent, writing various articles and taking part in video content. 

Hailing from Oakville, ON, Melanie was student council president at St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School. After graduating from STA she attended Wilfrid Laurier University and graduated with a double honours degree in Communications Studies and English, and a minor in History. She also holds a certificate in Public Relations from Humber College and a certificate in Broadcast Journalism from Seneca College.  She lives in Toronto with her husband, young son and energetic dog.

Jean Major

Jean Major (Gourlay) was named a member of the 2020 Field Hockey Canada Hall of Fame induction class.

Jean Major was inducted into the U of T Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
