An album by alumna Adria Kain from Assumption Catholic Secondary School was nominated for the Juno Awards Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year!
In February 2022, Adria released her long-awaited first album, When Flowers Bloom, which features a mix of soul, R&B and jazz.
“The inspiration behind this album was personal growth and accountability,” said Adria. “That was the space I was in so naturally the songs started to come from that place and I just allowed myself to go with it, without force. I consider it the beginning of me really getting to tell my story.”
Throughout childhood, Adria’s focus was athletics, and was a member of the basketball team at Assumption. Eventually, she began to explore her artistic talents.
“One day I dove a little deeper into digital media arts and sound design and once I started using my voice and exploring this world a bit more things just started happening,” said Adria.
When asked to share any words of advice for students aspiring to work in the music industry, she encourages them to be themselves.
“Be okay with and confident in who you are, how you sound and how you want it to be perceived,” said Adria. “And don’t overthink too much. Usually, it’s focusing on the simple things that you know you can do well, following your passion and consistently working on gaining more knowledge of how to use your talents to the best of your abilities that takes you the furthest.”
