School Communication #12

Good evening – just a few items from Assumption as you start your weekend ….

Take Our (Your) Kid to Work Day (Gr. 9 Parents) Wednesday, Nov. 1st, 2023

  1. This is a friendly reminder that TOKTW Day will take place on November 1, 2023. This is the second year that Students Commission of Canada (SCC) is organizing the event.
  2. Students may join a parent/guardian or other trusted adult at their workplace, or they may choose to attend the virtual event, hosted by SCC.  Please ensure that your child has filled out the TOKTWD – Permission Form.pdf  and returned it to their period 1 grade 9 teacher.  Forms are due Monday, October 30/2023.  A reminder that the virtual event will be viewed at home by the student and not at the school.
  3. For students participating in the virtual event, they must register so that they receive access to the live stream, recordings and resources –  https://www.studentscommission.ca/en/take-our-kids-to-work. This is indicated on the Virtual sample agenda, the Schedule of Events for virtual participants, and in the Family Guide. If students are choosing to participate with this virtual option, they are still required to fill out the permission form attached and return to their period 1 grade 9 teacher by October 31/2023.  TOKTWD – Permission Form.pdf

Downloading Virtual Student Cards

Please click Digital ID instructions.jpg for instructions on downloading the student I.D. card.  Students can use the passwords that were provided to them on their photo proofs but will have to start from scratch to retrieve their ID’s if they have already done it.  If students already have the App, they can skip step 1.  If your student is a bus student, the bus routes will be printed on the back of their card.  If there are any issues with this procedure, please have the students come by the main office during their free time (before school, spare, lunch or after school)

Bus Students: Bus passes will now begin to be verified by the school bus drivers.  The main purpose of the secondary bus pass program is to ensure students who are not assigned to busing and are riding are identified to HSTS so we can follow up as needed, and to improve accuracy of our bus lists (as students who do not pick up their passes are removed from the bus manifest).

New information – REMINDER: Assumption has now issued virtual student IDs.   Assumption students will show their student ID on their mobile device and the ID will indicate a bus pass is assigned to that student. Example included below. (The paper ID card on the photo proofs will not have bus information)

Week #1 (Commencing Wednesday Nov 1):

Drivers to check for bus passes in the AFTERNOON ONLY when loading at the school (no checking required in AM). Students who do not have their pass will be reminded to have the pass with them or to obtain from the office (the next day) if they have not picked up their photos/pass. Drivers will not refuse service to those who do not have their pass with them.

Week #2 (Monday Nov 6):

drivers will continue to check for bus passes in the afternoon at the school AND will check for passes in the morning when students are disembarking at the school (not during pick up). Drivers will again not refuse service, however, will report to dispatch the names of students who don’t have the pass available. These students’ names should be sent to HSTS and we will follow up with school staff accordingly.

Week #3 (Monday Nov 13):

drivers will continue to check for bus passes in the AM at the school and the PM at the school. There should be no refusals of service, only reporting of students who do not have a bus pass.

Moving forward – drivers do not need to report students when they know the student has been riding and has previously shown the pass. We understand with coverage this may not always be known, which is why students are requested to have their pass with them daily.
