School Communication #37

Good afternoon Assumption families!  A few items below for your information:

New Construction/Home Maintenance Course

We are excited to share some news about a unique educational opportunity coming to Assumption in the 2024/2025 academic year. We’re introducing a new course in the field of construction, designated as TCY 3C, a Grade 11 Home Maintenance course.

This innovative course is designed to empower students by providing them with practical skills and knowledge in construction and home maintenance. While the course aims to make hands-on, technical subjects more approachable and engaging for all students, we especially encourage female students to explore this field, traditionally underrepresented by women.

TCY 3C offers a dynamic curriculum that covers essential skills in construction and provides a solid foundation for those interested in pursuing further studies or careers in Construction, Design, and Engineering. It’s an excellent opportunity for students to acquire hands-on experience and training in a supportive and inclusive environment.

This course also aligns seamlessly with our Construction/Design/Engineering SHSM (Specialist High Skills Major) program, offering students a pathway to specialize and excel in these fields.

We believe TCY 3C will be a valuable addition to our students’ educational journey, equipping them with practical skills and opening doors to future career opportunities. Please feel free to reach out to our Construction teacher – Mr. Pat Costigan (CostiganP@hcdsb.org) – if you have any questions or would like more information about this exciting new course.

OAPCE Information (Ontario Association of Parents in Catholic Education)

• The Ontario Association of Parents in Catholic Education (OAPCE) is the voice of parents and guardians of children enrolled in the publicly funded English Catholic System of Education in the Province of Ontario since 1939.

• OAPCE is the only Catholic parent association recognized by the Ministry of Education and is mandated through the Education Act in Regulation 612 School Councils. OAPCE provides a voice for parents who share a common goal in supporting the continuation and preservation of publicly funded Catholic Education in the province.

• Our central mandate is to share information with parents, to have them better informed of local school boards and Ministry of Education policies. As advocates for Catholic Education, by providing proper information and resources for parents, we support them to help their children succeed in school, and if all our children succeed, then Catholic Education succeeds. ENGAGE. ADVOCATE. ENHANCE.
