Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School Student Excels in the Welding Trade!

Grade 12 student Megan Moase from Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School is being recognized for her accomplishments in the skilled trades!

Megan recently won the Subject Proficiency Award for Technology at our school as a result of her academic achievements and passion for welding.

Megan says her interest in welding began on an elementary school trip to Notre Dame. “We went on a ‘Technology Rocks’ tour where we got to learn about the different technology courses in high school. I was immediately interested in Manufacturing and was introduced to welding through that course. I loved the course so much that I took it from Grade 9-12!” said Megan.

She also offered advice to female students who are interested in welding but are nervous to take the course because it’s a male-dominant class. “Don’t dwell too much on the opinions of others, as they don’t mean all that much in the future. I was a little intimidated being the only female in my welding class for three years, but I just focused on my work and completed tasks to the best of my ability. Keep calm and focus on your projects.”

Megan will be taking a course at the Canadian Welding Bureau in Milton this summer and will be attending college for welding in the fall! She has yet to decide on a college, but says she is leaning towards Mohawk College’s Welding Apprenticeship program.

Congratulations, Megan, on your achievements in the welding trade!
