Late Policy

LATES – OCCURRENCE AND ACTIONS:

A student is considered late to class if the student enters the classroom after the bell has rung. In the morning, a warning bell will ring. When students hear the music, they must proceed to their classroom immediately.

Persistent lates are not acceptable – they disrupt the learning of the student who is late as well as the learning of the other students in the class.  Lates will be addressed as follows:

1 – 5 lates

A discussion will take place between the teacher and the student. The teacher will contact home to inform parents/guardians of the importance of students being on time.

6 lates

The teacher refers the student to the vice principal. The vice principal will contact parents to inform them of the importance of students being on time, and that continued lates may result in a suspension. The student will serve a detention.

7 lates

The teacher refers the student to the vice principal. The vice principal will contact parents once again to inform them of the importance of students being on time, and that continued lates may result in a suspension. The student will serve a detention.

8 lates or more

The teacher refers the student to the vice principal.  The student may incur a suspension. The length of the suspension will be at the discretion of the administration of the school, in line with progressive discipline.  The vice principal will contact the parents.
