A Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) is a ministry approved specialized program that allows students to focus their learning on a specific economic sector. CtK offers Information and Communication Technology, Arts and Culture, and Sports SHSMs while meeting the requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). It assists in students’ transition from secondary school to apprenticeship training, college, university, or the workplace. It enables students to gain specific skills and knowledge which are relevant to the career that they are interested in pursuing, while helping them focus on graduation and their post-secondary goals.
These programs let students focus on a career path that matches their skills and interests. Each Specialist High Skills Major is a bundle of 8 to 12 courses within a selected field/sector completed in Grades 11 and 12. Students choosing a SHSM program learn on the job with employers as well in school, earning valuable industry certification and training related to their chosen sector.

These are opportunities for Grade 11 and 12 Students to earn college credits and experiences while still in high school. If you are potentially interested in these opportunities, please make an appointment to speak with your Guidance Counsellor.
