Rules and Expectations

Equity, Dignity and R-E-S-P-E-C-T

  • Our school is founded on the 3 core values of Equity, Dignity and Respect. Everyone is entitled to be treated equitably, with dignity and with RESPECT.
  • Teachers, secretaries, custodians, commissionaires, support staff, administrators, support staff and school bus operators provide a variety of valuable services for students and families.
  • Students are expected to be respectful to all staff and to follow their direction at all times.
  • Please ensure that you keep this in the forefront of your daily interactions at CtK.
  • Be KIND!

CtK Uniform

  • No hats or non uniform items in the building from bell to bell.
  • Hats and non uniform items will be confiscated by staff if worn anywhere in the building or Portables throughout the school day.
  • It is imperative for your safety and the safety of others that we know you are a student in the school
  • No non-school sweaters or hoodies (this includes grad wear). Only the CtK Macarthy’s uniform items are permitted.
  • Shoes must be closed toe and closed heel, no crocks or sandals.
  • There are to be no bags in classes or the washrooms at any point. Bags are to be kept in your lockers only. Teachers are not to allow bags into any portable or class at any given point.

Student Parking (Grade 12s)

  • You must have a parking pass if you are parking your vehicle on school property
  • Drive safely and slowly in parking lot and surrounding areas
  • Parking is a privilege not a right, and it will be revoked if you are not following the parking lot rules
  • Students with parking passes must park ONLY in the designated Student Parking Areas
  • Students parking in the wrong location and/or without the parking pass clearly visible will be ticketed and/or towed
  • Parking and/or safety infractions will lead to your parking pass being revoked and may lead to suspension

Personal Electronic Devices

  • Electronic devices can only be used in the classroom for educational purposes under the discretion of the teacher only, failure to follow teachers directions will result in progressive discipline
  • The school is not responsible for lost or stolen devices

Respectful use of Electronic Devices

  • Students are not permitted to record or take photos of anyone in the school unless it is in conjunction with a school sanctioned group, such as the yearbook club or the photography class
  • Students who take photos or video at school of other students or staff members without their consent will face progressive discipline up to and including suspension (don’t do it)

Racism/Discrimination/Bullying

  • Will not be tolerated in any form: Verbal, Physical, or Electronic.
  • Remember that Social Media posts are PUBLIC.
  • Freedom of Speech does not mean Freedom from Consequence
  • DISRUPT any and all Racism, Discrimination, and Bullying. Please report any/all concerns to a caring adult in school or at home
  • Be Kind!

Lockers

  • You are to use only the locker assigned to you and it is to be locked by a dial lock only. All lock combos are to be given to the main office.
  • Any locker issues should be discussed with Vice Principals and reassignment will be through the Vice Principals only.
  • Going into a locker that isn’t assigned to you will lead to progressive discipline.

Smoking & Vaping

  • Not permitted on school property or at school related activities or events
  • Not permitted in vehicles on school property
  • Suspensions and and fines will be administered from Halton Region for smoking or vaping on
  • school property or who are found in possession of paraphernalia (vape pens, vape juice, e cigarettes, etc.)
  • Possession will result in the same consequences

Washroom/Hall Passes

  • Any student leaving leaving class needs a washroom pass to do so. There is only 1 washroom pass per class so hurry up and get back so the next student can use it. Students are required to sign out of class and sign back in upon return.
  • Washrooms are not to be loitered in, that means ZERO hanging out. Students will no pass (in washroom/hallway), multiple students in a stall, or students just hanging out and not using the washroom appropriately will undergo progressive discipline.

Mental Health Supports and Resources

  • We have the support of a Child & Youth Counsellor (CYC) Ms. James and Social Worker Ms. Kovacic at CtK
  • Students should speak to your teacher, Guidance Counsellor or VP if you would need support
  • Please take care of yourself. Your health and wellness are your number one priority.

Lates and Absences

  • Students that are more that 20 minutes late are to go directly to class. If you are more than 20 minutes late you will go to the attendance office to sign in. At 4 lates in a given class your guardians will be contacted and notified that any future lates will be directed to the administration for progressive discipline
  • After 5 absences in any given class guardians will be contacted and reminded that attendance directly
  • effects your success in any given class. At 10 absences guardians will be contacted and will be notified that your credit is in jeopardy, and at 15 absences their will be s very strong possibility that you will not be receiving the credit
  • Have guardians report all absences ahead of time or you will be pulled from classes to to get absences verified
  • If a student is signed out you are to leave the property, you cannot stay at school unless this has been approved by an administrator
  • Students must sign out with the attendance secretary, in the attendance office and sign into school with the attendance secretary, in the attendance office

Classroom/Library/Cafeteria/Community Expectations

  • The classroom teacher/librarian/cafeteria staff/and commissionaires are responsible for the physical and mental safety of the students in the classroom, library, cafeteria and hallways. Students not following expectations in any area of the school or whom refuse to follow staff members direction to see and
    administrator will undergo Progressive Discipline.
  • Misbehaviour in the community that results in compromising the moral tone of the school will be disciplined by the school as well as the police. Examles ; fighting, social media threats/bullying, stealing, etc. Remember that there are cameras notonly in the school but all over the community and they will identify you so behave
    your self at all times, on and off school property.

  • Most amount of money raised in Relay For Life at 150000 (unreal)
  • Loving dedicated staff that give up their time after hours because CTK students are worth further development.

The secret to success is to use the resources available to you and get involved in at least one activity per semester and make the most of this wonderful opportunity that you have been blessed with.
